The thing I remember about touring is...the rain. Even if just a morning
sprinkle, it seemed to rain at every show. It got to be that Saratoga was
scheduling The Dead at drought time. (They should have played Africa more.)

Memory: I remember the first time I mail ordered for my tickets. I
made sure I followed every direction 100%. I would have never forgiven
myself if I made a mistake and didn't get my tickets. The first day the
envelope could be post marked I'd be at the post office early that morning.
I never waited in line for Dead tickets again. I used to draw cool pictures
on the envelope to help make it stand out.

Tour Memory: New Orleans is always charged with the Mardi Gras spirit.
One big party. The most intimate show I've seen was squeezed onto a
small basketball court at the Univ. of New Orleans. Once the stage was
set with all the band's gear, there was barely enough room for the crowd.
Throw in a few of the Nevilles and The Bangles during the encore and that
was one great show...my special memory of the Big Easy.

You wouldn't think the whole Grateful Dead vibe would fit in with the
totally glitzy aura of Las Vegas. It does. Vegas was just so weird and so
much fun, and the boys were on that night. Much to our delight, they played
a bunch of their underrated, new, fresh material like Easy Answers, Lazy
River Road, Corinna, Way to go Home, and the best of the lot, Liberty.
