Teddy Bears
For a Cause
by Gund |
Val Skinner won her first golf title at the age of seven. Since then, Skinner
an LPGA Touring Professional since 1983, has multiple tour victories and ranks
among the top in all time career winnings. She is recognized not only for her
outstanding performance as an athlete but also her humanitarian efforts.
Skinner is the
Chairperson of the Val Skinner Foundation, a public charity organized to support
organizations dedicated to the cause of breast cancer. The foundation is the
host of an annual charitable golf tournament, known as the LIFE (LPGA Pros In
The Fight To Eradicate Breast Cancer) Event, which has raised significant funds
for breast cancer research and education. Because of her continuous efforts,
Val has been presented the Award of Hope, the Komen Award and USA Weekend
Magazine's "Most Caring Athlete Award."
The Val
Skinner Foundation has selected the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the
LPGA's official national charity since 1992 and the nation's largest private
funder of research dedicated solely to breast cancer, and The Cancer Institute
of New Jersey, a National Cancer Institute designated clinical care center as
the primary recipients of the funds raised through the LIFE Even. Together
these three organizations have created a young women's breast cancer
initiative. The Komen Foundation utilizes these contributions to support a
national breast cancer outreach initiative which focuses on women in their
twenties and thirties. The Cancer Institute uses this support for a breast
cancer clinical research initiative also focusing on young women and the
prevention and treatment of this disease.
The LPGA
family, unfortunately like many of you, has discovered firsthand the devastating
effects of breast cancer on the victims, their families and friends. Your
support of the Val Skinner Foundation by the purchase of this product will honor
the memory of those who have lost their lives to this disease and give reason to
celebrate LIFE.
